The Preamble of the Constitution of India assures pluralism
as the keystone of Indian culture and religious tolerance the bedrock
of Indian secularism.
"The constitution of India having solemnly resolved to constitute
India into a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic
and to secure to all its citizen justice, social, economic and political
liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship, equality
of status and of opportunity and to promote among them all, fraternity
among the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity
of the nation.
GCIC's endeavor is to protect and preserve the constitutional guarantee
to all persons to profess, practice and propagate religion of their
choice and scrupulously restrain state for making any discrimination
on the grounds of religion, help every section of the society especially
the least privileged to assert their own rights.
The idea from the beginning was to be proactive and not just reactive
in regards to the interests of the Christian community and other
minorities, including Dalits, Tribals and Backward communities.
It was also an attempt to get committed and talented people to put
their energies into safeguarding the interests of the Church and
it's activities through all constitutional means.
The tremendous interests shown to GCIC for its various initiatives
in solving major problems faced by Christian community was appreciated
through letters and telephone calls from many Churches and organizations
from all parts of India, affirming the formation of GCIC became
a significant sign for us to move forward .The GCIC now represents
a vast and increasing constituency across the nation.
The GCIC "Prayer Letters" is received by concerned Christians worldwide,
including media outlets. The response to this communication has
been overwhelming positive.
The following is the position and function of the GCIC as it continues
to evolve and the direction it will take in the future.
The motto of the GCIC is to protect and assert the Indian Christian
community in regards to the national issues that impact them. The
attack launched on the Christian community has exposed our vulnerability
and therefore we want to be ready and proactive.
